14th ASIA PACIFIC ROUNDTABLE ON SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
As a country with a large population, Indonesia is not only a producer country in global trade but also a consumer class in the world. With a population of 250 million, Indonesia consumes more than half of its timber, paper, oil palm and other resources. Through the SCP (Sustainable Consumption and Production) program, Indonesia is one of the main target countries that has an important role to encourage consumer behavior that leads to responsible consumption.
Communities in Indonesia have long been a major supporting factor for change, as a representation and a special segment that has the power to move, as well as creating change in all spheres because of their characters that can enter in various environments and generations. The objective of this roundtable is to encourage synergies and identify potential collaborations among various communities that are actively progressing with SCP issues.
1. Mapping & update of current SCP-related environment issue and communities initiative/innovation (including successful stories).
a. What are some of the pressing ecological and social issues currently happening that are closely related to unsustainable production and consumption activities?
b. What are the existing initiatives, innovations that have been taken by local communities on SCP and or success stories that has been achieved from those initiatives
c. What are the challenges or hindrances experience by the communities in progressing with the initiatives? What solutions are being explored to resolves these issues?
2. Creating synergies and potential collaborations.
Related to the objective no 1, these objective to encourage encourage participants to identify synergies and potential collaborations in order to optimize their efforts on advocating SCP. This session aims to conclude the overall discussion by having participants gaining more knowledge and understanding of the SCP work landscape, especially those initiated by communities in Indonesia. In addition, WWF-Indonesia also target the discussion to enable community participants to create synergies among themselves on their work and strategy on SCP. Topics covered for innovation by community include of sustainable food, waste management, sustainable seafood, clean energy, green transportation, and green lifestyle.
